ADS7854: What will happen if I write 1 to a default 0 Configuration Register of an ADC?

Part Number: ADS7854

Hi all,

I am designing a ADC circuit using ADS7854 and utilizing its fully differential input configurations.

From the datasheet, there is a 16 bits Configuration Register (CFR) (page 34).

I am required to configured the CFR to enable my desired input configurations.

My question is that, what would happen if I write a 1 to bit 8 | 7 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0. Because those bits field are 0 and also written in the datasheet that these bits must be set to 0 (default).

Thank you.

  • Hi Sai Kham Mouk,

Bits 7 and 4 of the configuration register look to be controllable bits for the ADSxx53 devices. These functions aren't available on the ADSxx54 devices so we require '0' to be written. For the other bits, it is unclear what will happen if a '1' is written. It is likely nothing will happen but I cannot be certain. Because of this, please keep these bits set to '0'.

    Regards,
    Aaron
