Hi team,

Can you answer the following customer questions please?

My topic is based on ECG signal processing and therefore I am currently in the search for suitable equipment. So far, I came across the evaluation board ADS1198ECGFE-PDK from Texas Instruments.

Could you please support me regarding whether the mentioned evaluation board enables the following:

  1. Is there a possibility to acquire raw ECG data (R,L,F,V1,V2,V3,V4,V5,V6 with respect to a reference signal) instead of lead signals (Ref: ADS1198ECGFE-PDK User manual section 4.6) ? We would like to do processing of individual single ended ECG signals (i.e. R or L), and since commonly available devices offer the predefined lead signals (i.e. I = L-R), we would like to omit that.
  2. What is the possibility to acquire and process real-time samples in Matlab from the evaluation board itself?

 In case this board is not offering the mentioned points, we would very much appreciate if you could support us by giving an input regarding the evaluation boards that could possibly be used for our needs.

    Comments and suggestions are affixed to the questions -

    1. Can customer what does is mean by raw signals? Common/convention ways are  -
      1. 3 Primary Limbs differential leads - RA->LL, RA->LA, LA->LL.
      2. 3 augmented leads that can be either measured with respect to WCT(Wilson Central Terminal) or calculated algebraically by the 3 Primary Limbs differential leads
      3. 6 precordial(chest) leads cane be measured with respect to WCT. 

    So, if the reference signal is WCT, the answer is Yes ADS1198 supports WCT measurement. Customer may try to omit the 3 Primary Limbs differential leads, just be aware to understand that if they are doing this way, this might digress from the common/convention.

    2. What is the possibility to acquire and process real-time samples in Matlab from the evaluation board itself?

    TI does not support using MATLAB to interface the ADS1198 EVM and EVM's MMB0 mother board(has DSP chip as a host). 

    Customer may need to search how to use MATLAB to interface/communicate with

    1. TI's DSP chip on MMB0 mother board

    or

    2. SPI protocol. Usually this needs additional uController or FPGA as a host.
