DAC70501: Read Registers in SPI mode

Part Number: DAC70501
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY

Is this possible? There is no mention of SPI read mode in the data sheet. The users guide to the EVM (which only supports SPI mode) clearly shows that the registers can read and written. Please clarify.

  • Hi Hosmer,

The DAC70501 does not have an SDO pin so it does not support read in SPI mode. You can read and write in I2C mode.

We use the same GUI framework for most of out DACs and the read buttons are there by default. I think they left the same default text in the user's guide about the read buttons as well. The read buttons on the GUI are still functional because the USB2ANY has a MISO line, it is just unconnected because the DAC doesn't have the SDO pin.

I don't have the GUI installed on my computer, but going off of the screenshot in the user's guide it does look like the registers are all listed as write only:

  • Katlynne,

Thanks for the quick response --

I also don't have the DAC80501EVM installed, I was just going by the manual (section 3.2.2.1 Low Level Configuration Page).

I would suggest that TI clarify (and clean up) the data sheets on the DACx70501 and EVM as there are still many errors as pointed out in the forums.
