ADC128S102QML-SP: Junction to case resistance

Part Number: ADC128S102QML-SP

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to clarify about the Junction-to-case resistance of ADC128S102QML-SP. Please see our customer's inquiry below.

The ADC128S102QML-SP datasheet specify a Junction-to-case (top) resistance.

I read the application report SPRA953C and I understand that the component dissipation if by top side.

The SMD 5962R07227 indicates the same Junction-to-case resistances, but it doesn't mention that is from top.

Why is it indicated that the component dissipates by TOP when it does not have an exposed pad?

If it is correct that the component dissipates on the top side, how should I mount it on the PCB?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Danilo,

You should mount the device following the datasheet diagram, with the bottom closet to the PCB.

As the document SPRA953C stated, Junction-to-case (top) resistance is a historical measurement that is meant to be used with a heat sink is used. A heat sink, is a piece of metal that is attached to a semiconductor device to add more surface area in effort to dissipate more heat. This is usually attached to the top side of the device.
