AMC7836: UART to SPI converter

Part Number: AMC7836

Hi Experts,
Good day! I am posting this on behalf of the customer.

Hi! We are students working on a master thesis project involving sending and reading analog data. We have been looking for a combined DAC/ADC module with requirements:

16 channel analog output
6 channel analog input
Resolution: 12 bits, preferably 16 or more
Sampling rate: 1kHz or more
Input voltage tolerance: 0-3.3V or more
USB and serial UART interfaces
Have a UI (user interface)
Possibility to output recordings of data (.mat files)

So far the best device option we have is the AMC7836, which fulfills all requirements except for the UART interface. We need this to be able to read in an analog signal from another device that only communicates with UART. Do you have any converters/adapters that could read UART and convert it to SPI which the AMC7836 can read? OR do you maybe have other devices available that fulfill all of our requirements?

Best regards,
Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

We do not have any DACs that use UART as its native interface.  It also sounds like you would need the DAC to be the UART controller/master while your analog switch is a target/slave.  I think you would be better suited to have a low-cost MCU here.

There are some UART to SPI converter devices on the market, but they would still require one of the devices to be the master.

Otherwise, the AMC7836 is a good fit here, though I think you are looking for a device that has some integrated software suite for pattern generation, which we do not have.  That would need to be implemented externally.

    Thanks,

    Paul
