Hello

I'm simulating DAC53701 in Pspice.

I want to configure that this DAC53701 will act as PWM according to the document that TI released:

according to this document I need to configure registers.

My questions:

1. is it possible in Pspice and does the model of DAC53701 support it?

2. if the answer is yes to 1, please advice how to do it?

  • Hi Michael, 

    The PSPICE model doesn't include the digital features inside the DAC. You can apply a triangle wave source to the ADC model you are using to simulate the internal triangle wave function generator of the DAC. Then connect the DAC output pins as shown in the article. 

    As a comment, we also have a new, more integrated device for GPI to PWM control. This is the DAC539G2-Q1. It takes three GPI inputs directly rather than requiring the external resistor network.

    I followed your instruction and it works for me.

    if I set frequency triangle beyond 10KHz, the output levels do not swing between 0-5V.

    Instead, the output can swing on the upper level or lower (for instance: 4-2V or, 0-2V) depends on the voltage reference.

    is there is a way to speed up the frequency?

  • Hi Michael,

    Make sure you are calculating the frequency using the margin high, margin low, slew rate, and code step you intend to use. Beyond 10kHz from zero code to full code is not a frequency that would be achievable with the internal function generator on the DAC53701.

     (Note, these are corrected equations. The datasheet equations are missing the ceiling function).
