ADS131M04EVM: Trick to enable 64kSPS functionality?

Hi team,

We've been working with the ADS131M04EVM and, per the datasheet, are expecting to be able to achieve 64kSPS. We've set Fclkin to 8.192MHz (JP6 set on pins 1 and 2) and verified this with measurement.

We've tried using the GUI to set the OSR to 64, but we can't find a way to enable this option and have also tried manually writing to the register, but no success. DREADY keeps pulsing at 32kHz.

What trick are we missing to get 65kSPS?

Hi Jacob,

there is a chance that the EVMs out in the market use a previous silicon revision which might not have the turbo mode feature.
Could you let me know the top side package marking of the device and the value of the ID register? Then I might be able to verify.

Does the GUI itself show the TBM bit?

Hi Jacob,

To expand off Joachim, the TBM bit does not exist in the GUI. However you can directly activate that bit by clicking the column to change the 0b to a 1b (bit 5 in the CLOCK register). Or you can double click the value column and type it in directly. Here, I changed the value to 0x0F2E and when I hit enter, the write is committed.

Absolutely agree with Joachim on the silicon revision. If you happen to have samples of the new revision, feel free to swap the devices out and try that way.

Hi Cole and Joachim,

Thanks for the guidance! I was not aware that there was a silicon revision - I assumed we had done extended qualification on the original device design which allowed us to guarantee the turbo mode.

If manually writing to the chip is not enabling TBM, then I'd assume this is old silicon.

We'll try Cole's recommendation as well as check the markings.

Hi Jacob,

based on the date code this material should be from April 2021. That is before material with the implemented turbo mode was shipped.
The bits [7:0] should read 0x3 or lower on this old material. Looking at the register map screen shot you sent, this device seems to read 0x0 for those bits. That would mean this is an even older die revision.

Hi Jacob,

yes, I think so.
We still have a lot of EVMs with the old silicon out in the market. If you order a new EVM, you might still not get one with the latest silicon unfortunately.
We plan to update the GUI to add the TBM bit by the end of the year.

Thanks for the heads up Joachim. I'm also going to sample them a few individual IC's so that they can solder them onto the EVMs if needed. That way we can guarantee they're testing new devices.

I'll be sure to tell them to keep an eye out for the GUI update later this year too!

probably best if they let us know the date code of the samples before they solder them down. There could still be old material out there.
