AFE5832LPEVM: system evaluation

Part Number: AFE5832LPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TX7332EVM, , TX7332, AFE5832LP, AFE5832

Hi,

Let me ask you a question about the ultrasound system evaluation with AFE5832LPEVM+TX7332EVM.

Now my customer is considering to evaluate "whole ultrasound system" by using AFE5832LPEVM+TX7332EVM.

Will you tell me what kind of EVMs should we prepare to make up "whole ultrasound system"?

Thank you for your support.

Best Regards,

Takumi

  • Hi Takumi-san,

    Thanks for reaching out.

In order to evaluate the whole ultrasound system, you will need the following boards:

    1. TX7332 EVM (TX Board) - to transmit high voltage ultrasound pulses to scan an object. You will also need the ultrasound piezo-electric transducers to generate sound. And some kind of interfacing scheme to connect the TX7332 output to the transducer may also be needed.

    2. AFE5832LP EVM (RX Board) - To receive the ultrasound echo through the T/R Switch of the transducer. Also, some connectors will be needed to connect TX7332 T/R switch output to RX board

    3. TSW1400 (FPGA Board for data capture) - this board will connect to the AFE5832LP board to capture the ADC data through LVDS interface.

Note that the system in the above case will be 32-ch TX and 32-ch RX. Also, this will not be close to real system because of bigger board and longer traces. A system using AFE5832 and TX7332 is typically meant for portable application such as hand held systems.

Hence, in order to evaluate this kind of system, I would suggest you to directly use the SWAROOP design we had developed a couple of years back. This design is an integrated solution using 2 x AFE5832LP and 4 x TX7332 devices, making a 128-Ch transmit and 64-Ch receive system, which will be closer to the real system. Also, we have onboard Artix-7 FPGA to capture the data and a connector to connect the external probe. The whole dimension of the board is 90mm by 40 mm.
