DAC3283EVM: evaluation board is having problem in locking clock and synthesizer.

Part Number: DAC3283EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCE62005, , TRF372017, DAC3283

We have kept the default values in DAC3283EVM-SW which use to come after executing "Reset USB Port" and "Read All" options. After this we go to "initialize" option. This should initialize and lock the CDCE62005 clock and theTRF372017 synthesizer. Respective leds should also glow. But we have observed that it take long time in locking the clock and some time clock locking led glow very dim (what is the indication for a low glow?). and after this synthesizer led take again lot of time to glow. But most of the time they does not even glow and when we press initialize button for some more time, software also got stuck. It remains stuck for quite a time and then we have to stop the power supply to make it functional again.

Are we missing some steps here? How much time it usually takes for locking purpose?

  • Hello Ankit,

Please see if you can click on the button "WAKE-up" to calibrate the CDCE62005 PLL circuit. This should allow the CDCE62005 VCO to calibrate and relock.

For the TRF372017, you can press "EN_CAL" to calibrate the TRF372017 PLL/VCO

  • Hi ,

    Thanks for the reply.

So, we are observing that when we press "Reset USB Port" warning came to check cable, then we press 2-3 time warning gone. next we press "Read all" , again warning came and at pressing same button 2-3 times warning does not come. then we initialize. Is this expected behavior of GUI? This is shown in below video.

After Initialize CDCE62005  lock led glow but not continuously. It was going ON and OFF. and TRF372017 led does not glow . Is there some issue with parameter settings?

we are trying to lock it in standalone mode (without connecting to FPGA). Once all locking works fine then we will connect it to FPGA.

We also tried the options you suggested in previous reply But that is not helping.

  • Hello,

Please check if there are other USB connections such as the Intel/Altera USB blaster and Xilinx programmer. Both of them uses the same USB chip and it is possible that the GUI is not recognizing the DAC3283 EVM.

Once I connect to the EVM for the GUI, I just click on send all, and both the CDCE62005 and TRF372017 locks up immediately.

  • Hi

Once I connect to the EVM for the GUI, I just click on send all, and both the CDCE62005 and TRF372017 locks up immediately.

We tried this also but CDCE62005 and TRF372017 are not locking.

Let me also share the my power supply parameters in below Image if anything is wrong there:

we are using EVM software in windows 10 PC. We have tried in two different PC but no success there. Below is the Image having default parameters, can you please comment on this if they are correct:

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Ankit,

My 5.5V rail supply draws about 1A

I used the default GUI to program the CDCE62005 and TRF372017

  • Hi

    Thanks for the reply.

    1. I change the power supply to 5.5V, then I have following observations:

-Initially when I click on 'send all' , it does not lock but after some time  it got locked by clicking again and led blinked.

    - next if we off the supply and on it again, we need to click on 'send all' and then 'initialize' to get CDCE62005 and TRF372017 locked.

    - But next day CDCE62005 and TRF372017 are not locking as previous day.

    2. One more thing in your default setting interpolation is 1 and in mine interpolation is 4, still all the CDCE62005 divider values are same, because according to EVM3283 divider value depends on interpolation factor. For Ex- FIFOOSTRDiv=8×Interpolation×DACclockdivider

    3. Also if I am trying to change the interpolation factor or mixer value in GUI it is not allowing me to change. How can we do that?

  • I have replaced the DAC3283 EVM card and now it is locking the CDCE fine.
