AFE5401-Q1: Question about the signal output from AFE5401

Part Number: AFE5401-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28386D

Hello.

I have a question about the output signal of AFE5401.

I would like to convert the data output from ADC into an IQ signal and Fourier transform it.

It's my first time doing something like this with ADC, so I don't have a clue.

When the amplitude of the baseband signal is in the range of 1.3V to 3.3V, I want to know if I can convert the data output from AFE5401 into I signal and Q signal, and I also want to know how.

I'm really sorry for the beginner question, but I'd really appreciate it if you could help me.

Thank you.

  • Hi.

This device does not support the demod feature . Can you elaborate why do you need I and Q signal ?

  • I'm sorry for the lack of questions.

    I am developing FMCW radar.

I want to send the data output from AFE5401 to DSP(TMS320F28386D) and get information about range, velocity, and angle through Fourier transform. Therefore, I want to do the calculation based on IQ signal.

For example, if the value of 1500 is output from CH1 of AFE5401, I want to show this value as IQ signal. How can I convert it?

    Thank you.

  • I Q signal comes only when you mix it with In phase and out of phase signal  (0 degree and 180 degree). This option is not available in this device . So when the output comes it is just samples and quantized signal of your analog waveform . On this you can be able to take Fourier transform but  IQ signal is not able to get from device .  If you need IQ data you have to do this mixer outside of device .

  • Oh... Since the differential signal of the baseband is input for each channel, I thought the value input from the dsp could be converted into an IQ signal.

I have TSW1400, and the result of checking through simulation using it shows the FFT signal that I expected. I have to do something like this within the dsp.

How does TSW1400 process the output value of AFE5401 to FFT?

It may be cumbersome, but I desperately want you to help me.

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

The device gives output data on CMOS output (D11:0) and from the datasheet you will  be able to separate each channel output data  . Once this data is received you can take the fft. You can plot the magnitude of the each fft bin to get the spectrum same as TSW1400 card.
