DAC8531: New generation of DAC8531

Part Number: DAC8531
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC80501, DAC8411, DAC53701, DAC8560

Hi team,

I notice that DAC8531 is an very old device. For new promotion, will DAC8411 or DAC80501 is the better option?

Pls let me know your suggestions.

Regards,

Xiaoying

  • Hi Xiaoying,

It depends on what you need the device for in the application. Note that the DAC8531 has a comparator output. Neither the DAC8411 or DAC80501 have this comparator.

If you just want to use a high accuracy DAC, both the DAC8411 and DAC80501 are great options.

If you want the comparator, some options are the DAC8560, which has been updated recently, and the DAC53701, a newer "SmartDAC" device.

    Thanks,
    Erin

  • Hi Erin,

Can you show more details of the comparator output? What's the specific funtions? I cannot find such description in DAC8351 datasheet.

    Regards,

    Xiaoying

  • Hi Xiaoying,

My apologies, I mistook the output amplifier for a comparator. Our more current devices don't have the amplifier feedback pin available.

With this in mind, we can compare the DAC80501 and the DAC8411. The DAC8411 is a simpler device. It has the same SPI communicate setup as the DAC8531. The reference is tied to the VDD, which means the output scales from 0V to VDD.

The DAC80501 is a more current device. It has a separate reference pin, like the DAC8531. It has a register map and many configuration settings, which is accessed through either I2C or SPI.

If you are looking for a device that is as simple as the DAC8531, but slightly updated, then you should go with the DAC8411. If you are looking for a full upgrade with extra features, then the DAC80501 is good.

    Thanks,
    Erin
