ADS114S06B: How to shut ADS114S06B down.

Part Number: ADS114S06B

Hello guys,

One of my customers is evaluating ADS114S06B with 5V AVDD and 3.3V DVDD/IOVDD.

They want to shut AVDD only down to 0V for power saving.
Is it no problem for the device If AIN0~5 and GPIO0~3 terminal voltage are shut down to 0V with AVDD?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Kazuya.

  • Hi Kazuya.,

Depending on the length of off time, it may be more advantageous to use the POWERDOWN feature which will power down the analog portion of the ADC internally.  Here the advantage is the part starts up more quickly and doesn't lose charge on supply caps.  When you remove the AVDD supply, you will place the ADS114S06B into a reset state and held in the reset state until the supply is at nominal operating voltage.  All registers will be required to be rewritten as they will be reset.  Using POWERDOWN allows the device to hold register settings and when the device is issued WAKEUP no additional configuration is required.

When completely powering down the analog supply you must also ensure that no voltages are applied to the analog inputs which would violate the Absolute Maximum Ratings.  So although it is possible to remove the AVDD power, there are other considerations that must also be considered.
