DAC34SH84 filtering loss

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC34SH84, TRF3705

Dear,

1. Maximum analog of DAC34SH84 is input data rate(Fdata)*0.8. correct?

2. if correct, with interleaving, maximum Fs 1.5GSPS*0.8=1.2GHz max analog output?

3. Then how many dB is filtering loss? if you have Fdata vs lss graph, please provide it.

Thanks.

  • Hi David,

The maximum analog output will depend on the DAC's interpolation and sample rate. Do you know what frequency you are trying to get to so I can better help you?

    Thanks,

    Eben.

  • Customer's design is not fixed so sampling rate can be changed and analog frequency as well.

Customer wants to know relation between interpolation and analog output by sampling rate and whether analog output of 1.2GHz is available with 1.5Gsps sampling rate.

    Thanks.

  • Hi David,

The DAC is not intended to be used to output directly at >600MHz since performance will degrade significantly. To be able to output at 1.2GHz, you will need an external modulator such as a TRF3705. An example design can be found here: http://www.ti.com/tool/TSW30SH84EVM

The interpolation sets the maximum input data rate to the DAC (Max input data rate = 1500MSPS/interpolation) and the integrated NCO + mixer can be used to shift the input spectrum to arbitrary higher frequency at the output of the DAC.

    Thanks,

    Eben.
