TLV5638 output range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV5638-EP

Hi!

We are using the TLV5638-ep, powered with 3.3 V. The datasheet states that the 2x output is rail-to-rail, but in the output specifications (data sheet page 5) the output voltage is stated to be max Vdd-0.4 which is 2.9V in our case.

We are using an external reference of 1.45 V to make the full-scale output 2.9V. Can you confirm whether it is OK or not to change the external reference to 1.65V? We would very much like to be able have an output range of 0 - 3.3V.

Best regards

  • Hi Knut,

The term "rail-to-rail" is very often used fairly lightly. From my experience amplifiers with "rail-to-rail" performance usually mean "100mV to 300mV from rail". I wish I got some say in the datasheet "buzzwords".

Anyways back to the issue. You cannot get 3.3V output swing with a 3.3V supply. If you need a 3.3V output swing, you are going to need to use at least a 3.7V supply.

I can also offer a schematic review if you are interested.
