Hello,
I am using a THS1207 in a project and I want to know if I can use an external reference on pin REFIN, or is it mandatory to connect pins REFOUT and REFIN together, and if I want to use an external reference, I must use the differentian reference pins REFP and REFM?
Also, in the datasheet, it is recomanded to use a 10uF capacitor on each REFP and REFM pins. Do I have to use these capacitors even if I only use REFIN pin?
Thank you,
Adrian V.
Hi Adrian,
You can apply an external 2.5V reference to REFIN - you do not have to use the internal common mode source. Normally, the REFM and REFP voltages are derived from the internal 2.5V common mode reference. Refer to the block diagram of the THS1206 on page eight of the data sheet. If you disable the internal reference, you will need to also provide REFP and REFM as these two voltage levels set the limits for the analog input voltage. All reference pins need to have the 10uF bypass to maintain stated data sheet performance levels. You may find the Designing with the THS1206 application note useful as well.
