DAC80004: VREF less than 2.2V

Part Number: DAC80004
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC60004,

Team-

We have a customer who is applying 1.5V to VREF; in this case VDD = 3.3V

The data sheet states that VREF,min = 2.2V.

The question is what sort of derating should we expect in the converter? I assume we would see a degradation in DNL performance.

Thanks, Best, Steve

  • Steve,

I would anticipate that INL and DNL would be de-rated while the other parameters would stay the same since they're really dominated by the output amplifier. I will double-check with the design folks.
  • Hi Steve,

Thank you for your query. I checked with the design team and the answer is as follows:

    1. We have tested the lower voltage reference condition long back and the device was found to be functional till 1.2V
    2. The parameters that get affected are DNL, INL, Gain Error and Full-Scale Error. These can even be extrapolated qualitatively from the datasheet
    3. We had successfully tested the device for 12-bit performance in this condition

I would suggest you to go for DAC60004 instead of DAC80004 if you are ok with 12-bit performance.

  • Thanks; this is about what I expected. I think it was an oversight in the design and they will change to use an appropriate voltage reference when they have an opportunity to change to board.
