ADS7887: Contact ADS7887 for analog and digital isolation

Part Number: ADS7887
Hi. TI
In the 23 page layout part of the ADS7887 datasheet, we have the following guide.

Use a ground plane underneath the device and partition the PCB into analog and digital sections.

In the Layout Example at the bottom of the page, it appears divided by analog and digital.

However, the EVM board user guide (slau166b.pdf) document does not seem to have separate analog and digital grounds.
When PCB layout, inquire whether you should separate Analog and Digital ground.

I will wait for your reply.
Thanks.

Best Regards,
Tyler
  • Hi Tyler,

The datasheet recommends to use a ground plane underneath the device.  As you correctly mention, the evaluation board uses a single ground plane and it is not necessary to split the ground plane.

The general recommendation is to partition the layout into analog and digital sections, keeping the sensitive analog signals away from noise sources and avoiding crossing clocks and digital lines with the analog signal path.  However,  it is not necessary to split the ground plane.

The link below includes  a discussion about grounding schemes you may find useful.
