AMC7891: AMC7891 and LMP92018 pin compatibility

Part Number: AMC7891
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMP92018,

We have been using AMC7891 in a design but due to lack of stock may need to switch to LMP92018. Another thread (titled: AMC7891: SPI interface and register operation not working properly) indicates they have different SPI timing (which is fine for our application). Other than that are there any other differences? Why are there two completely different part numbers that are so similar?

thank you

  • Joel,

As the other thread indicated there are some parametric differences, but it's not just in the SPI timing diagrams. Throughout the electrical characteristics table there are some performance differences as well, though they are minor. I don't think you were really asking about this level of comparison, though. At the high level they are functionally similar devices.

The register map for the two also differ to a fair extent. Again, the functionality is there but you would need to rework the firmware.

The two devices exist because these were developed prior to the TI acquisition of National Semiconductor.
  • Hi Joel,

Concerning your sourcing issues with the device, would you be open to taking this conversation to email? I would also like to try to tackle the core root cause of this thread and see if we can understand the situation and work on getting that resolved.
