ADS114S06: Operating Temperature

Part Number: ADS114S06
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1220, LMP90080-Q1, , PGA302, PGA300, PGA305

We need to improve the specification of a design which interfaces with a wheat-stone bridge.

We currently have a solution working based around the ADS1220. However a new application has one specification requirement which this part does not meet, which is it's operating temperature.

The target operating temperature (even if it's with derated performance, it still needs to operate) at 150 degC.

At a minimum we require: -

  • 1x differential input
  • PGA on the input upto 128V/V
  • 2ksps sample rate (or higher)
  • Minimum 16-bit resolution
  • Operating temperature to 150degC
  • Not cost £250 each

I notice the part LMP90080-Q1 has an operating temperature of 150degC, and the analogue input capability is suitable (we can live with 16-bit resolution if we can get the temperature). However, the sample rate is something we cannot compromise on which is only 216sps. I notice that the part ADS114S0x range is advertised as an alternative, however isn't advertised as having a matching operating temperature.

Would TI be willing to offer these parts with a higher operating temperature? Or would you be able to offer one of the similar/suitable product ranges to that temperature?

Many thanks,

  • Hi Neil,

welcome to our forum and thanks a lot for reaching out with your question.

We do currently not have any plans to release a higher temperature range version of ADS114S06 or ADS1220. But based on the business case such things can be discussed in theory. Let's first see if we can make one of our existing solutions work for you.

Could you work with a solution that provides an analog voltage or current output signal instead of a digital output?
If yes, then our PGA300 family (PGA300, PGA302, PGA305) could be a fit. They are all rated up to TA =150°C.

If that is not an option, could you explain how you want to process the data from the ADC and what your system output needs to be?

    Regards,
