AMC1304L05: Surge voltage

Part Number: AMC1304L05
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01349

Hi Team,

one of my customers is trying to develop a motor drive application that conforms to the IEC 61800-5-1 standard and the customer is planning to use the AMC1304L05 in the application. However, they have now come up against an issue with the isolation rating.

The datasheet of the AMC specifies the following surge ratings: V_IOTM at 8.4kV peak, and V_IOSM at 6.25kV peak. However, to conform to a class 3 surge rating according to the IEC 61800-5-1, the surge voltage needs to be >8kV.

So the question is whether this part can be used in this IEC 61800-5-1 application if it only has a 6.25kV surge rating?

Thanks and Regards,

Mihir

  • Hi Mihir,

I am not an expert on IEC 61800-5-1, so I cannot confirm that class 3 surge voltage is >8kV, however I believe you are correct. I would recommend showing the customer the AMC1306 or AMC1303, both have a surge voltage of 8kV. I found a few TIDA's that mention passing IEC 61800.

    AMC1303, TIDA-01349

    AMC1306, TIDA-01455
