ADS1230: Abnormal data output rate

Part Number: ADS1230
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1232

Hi, expert,

My customer met an issue about ADS1230, they set the output data rate as 80SPS, and let input 1mV DC voltage, but the output data shows not 80Hz and different among chips, all the test conditions are the same. Could you please help analysis the reason behind? Thanks.

Best Regards

Chen

  • Hi Chen,

The data output rate is directly proportional to the oscillator clock rate.  The internal oscillator does not have a guaranteed performance specification for the ADS1230 which differs from such devices as the ADS1232.  I would suspect that the data output rate could easily vary by +/- 10% of the nominal values.  This timing could also drift over temperature.

If greater consistency in timing is required, then I would suggest using an external clock source for the ADS1230 instead of the internal oscillator.
