ADS1231REF: Can't enter config mode

Following the reference guide,http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sbau175a/sbau175a.pdf , section 2.4, I can't enter Configuration mode.

Any time I press the PARAM buttons (S5 and S4) together it enters CAL mode. I managed to enter configuration mode once, but have not been able to do so again.

Hi Evan,

It can be tricky to get into configuration mode when attempting to press both buttons at once. I would suggest pressing and hold SW5 first, and then press SW4 and then release.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the quick answer. I should have mentioned I tried that technique and any other I could think of with the same results. Perhaps my S5 isn't working?

Also, is the design source available (and for the ADS1232REF) other than the PDFs in the user guide?

Hi Evan,

The contract manufacturer is supposed to run a test on the switches to verify operation. One way for you to check the operation for SW5 is to switch to analysis mode (red switch) and you should see the LCD change to a parameter when pressed.

Hi Bob,

In analysis mode, pressing SW5 has no impact on what's shown so seems like it could be faulty, is there a continuity test or bypass I could try?

Hi Evan,

Well that's a bummer. The GPIO input to the micro has a pulldown resistor, so when the switch is pressed it should pull the input high. The left side of the switch is 3.3V and the right side of the switch is the micro connection. I used a flat-blade screwdriver to bridge between the two lower contacts on the switch (toward the bottom edge of the PCB). NOTE: if you make contact with the metal on the top of the switch you will have a direct short to ground. It is safer to bridge the contacts on the bottom side of the board, but it is a little more tricky to make the contact and press the other switch.

Yep, definitely SW5, so looks like it was either working when the contract manufacturer ran their test or they never ran it. With the unit off and pressing the switch I get no continuity between the left and right pins.

Jumpering the switch when on, it behaves like it's supposed to (I used the probes of a multimeter in current mode).
