ADS1115: Required a suggestion for using the ADC ADS1115 with our operating range

Part Number: ADS1115

Dear Team

we are using  ADS1115 (VSSOP-10)  Analog to digital converter(4-channel, I2C communication) in one of our projects. our requirements is 3.3VDC input power supply, And Our analog input ranges between (0- 2.5)V. We are operating with the FSR +_4.096V. Kindly give your suggestion and feedback regarding this.

With regards,

Karthik

  • Kartik,

There's nothing wrong with the range of operation that you're describing. The with a supply of 3.3V, you can operate the ADC in the ±4.096V FSR. Note that none of the analog inputs should go outside GND to VDD (0V to 3.3V).

However, do lose out on some resolution. If the input is 0V to 2.5V single-ended, then the ADC misses out on some of the range of operation. With an FSR of ±4.096V, and an input of 0V to 2.5, you only use about 30% of the full range. This is still a completely valid operation, and many people use this device in this way.
