ADS8343: redesigning older board

Part Number: ADS8343

Hello,

A customer is redesigning a board with the ADS8343 on it. They had the below questions:

  1. Do we have an example schematics (EVM or reference design) for this device?
  2. What is the input impedance of the analog input, or what is the preferred output impedance to get the best performance
  3. What is the recommended Vref regulator, currently using the LM385 but I don’t think it's a good option
  4. Given how old this device is, do we have an newer alternative with similar performance?

Thanks,
Nick

  • Hello,

    1. Unfortunately we do not have an EVM for this, but there are multiple EVMs that can be used as a template.

    2. The input impedance for a SAR is dynamic, it is a switching capacitor. If the input is DC, usually just an RC filter is used, if the input is faster and a fast sampling rate is used, then a buffer is commonly used.

    3. This is a 16 bit device, which means they will need a clean Vref input. the REF60xx is out go to device

    4. There are some similar functionality devices, but nothing directly related. I did a quick parametric search, and came up with 12 results.

Nick, I think this is a good opportunity to find the customer a new device that can meet their new requirements, or provide an update on what is now available. As you noted this device released a while ago, there have been many innovations since then and it would be great to showcase these to the customer

If interested, please send me an email to discuss further. and provide support for the customer in their redesign.

    Regards

    Cynthia
