ADS1015: ALERT/RDY pulled to GND if not used...?

Part Number: ADS1015

My customer is using the ADS1015, but all their evaluation boards they realized they have been pulling ALERT/RDY to GND as it was not used/needed. But the DS recommends leaving floating or pulling to VCC via weak pull-up.

Pulling to GND is not a problem, as it is open-drain, correct?

The reason we recommend to leave it floating or pulled to VCC via weak pullup, is for when there are other devices that share the ALERT/RDY line, right? As long as no devices share this line, pulling it to GND should be fine, correct?

Thanks,

Darren

  • Darren,

This will be fine. The ALERT pin would be floating if it isn't being pulled down by the device. The device won't won't be affected if the line is already pulled low.

As an open drain connection, it would need to be able to tolerate another device pulling the line low when the ALERTs are tied together.
