Hi Ken C. or alternate High Speed Data Converter application Engineer,

I would like to communicate directly with the DAC38RF82EVM as part of a MATLAB automation script. In a 25 July 2015 forum thread between Konstantin Tafintsev and Ken C., Ken mentioned there were some tools available for Labview and MATLAB to communicate with the DAC using the on-board FDTI USB <=> Parallel interface. Can someone please provide me such tools for the DAC38RF82EVM?

I've already downloaded and trialed a similar set of tools for the ADC12DJ3200EVM, which allowed me to load .CFG files for the ADC, the on-board LMK04828 & LMX2582 RF synthesizer. It seems to work pretty well for that EVM, I would be most grateful for a similar MATLAB "tool-kit" for the DAC38RF82EVM.

Hi Kang,

Thanks for your prompt reply. For me, the "missing piece" of the equation for automating the initiialization/ startup of the DAC38RF82EVM is the "FTDI Pattern File" you identify in your "DAC348xEVM_Labview_SPI_Software.PPTX" document. For the DAC3484xEVM, this file is named

DAC348x.txt

We just need the same kind of file, with the register settings configured for the DAC38RF82EVM. I am using an SPI programming script in MATLAB for the ADC12DJ3200EVM (downloaded from the "Software" tab of the product page, as part of an MATLAB Automation installation package) which uses a similar file (ADC12DJxx00.txt).

If you can send me the "DAC38RF8x.txt" file for the FTDI USB-to-serial converter on the DAC38RF82EVM board, I should be able to handle it from there.

Hi,

These are called pattern files, which lists the clock and data patterns on the SPI bus for the particular device. You can download them from the software packages of the EVM within the "pattern file" folder. Below are all the files in the DAC38RF8x EVM software pattern file:

Hi Kang,

These files are just what I needed, much thanks for this. After your email, I confirmed that these files were available in the directory on my lab PC. I guess I should have checked there first... :)

I may have some further questions, if the behavior of the DAC doesn't line up with my expectations after I use the pattern files to load the desired information (i.e. the previously defined & saved .CFG configuration file) into the DAC.
