Hello everyone.

I'm interested in the DLPDLCR2000EVM board to make it a second monitor for a laptop.

At first, I thought I'd use a screenshare software to share my screen on a Raspberry Pi but it doesn't really meet my need since I will have two of the same screen. What I need is the pico-projector as a second monitor.

In order to do this, I would like to use it without a Raspberry Pi or a BeagleBone. My goal is to create a custom board with an IT6801FN chip (or equivalent) which will convert from RGB888 format to HDMI (something like the TIDA-00325). Do I need some other components to make it works or will the IT6801FN be enough by itself as a converter to use the evaluation board as a second monitor via HDMI ?

I don't have the evaluation module yet, I first try to know if it seems doable or not.

To answer your question, using the DLPDLCR2000EVM as a second monitor via HDMI is doable but will require some effort. You will need a number of additional things: MSP430 code that runs the ITE card (found on the DLP3010EVM-LC page), a design very similar to the reference design you mentioned above for the display, and an EDID. The code may have to be modified.

Regarding the EDID, do you have a specific recommendation on a reference that I should use ?

Concerning the MSP430, will it work as fine if I use an Arduino or a STM32 nucleo ? Will it be as easy to use or will it require even more effort ?

Since I'd like a board as small as possible, I'm exploring my options.

Hello Romain,

Due to its standardization, I have no specific recommendation for the EDID. Using another microcontroller may increase the difficulty of the project.

And due to the complex nature of the design, it is recommended to purchase an off-the-shelf system for your specific application, such as this Miroir mini projector.
