DLPC350: Increase the buffer size

Part Number: DLPC350
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4500

Hi Team,

Our customer has a DLPC350 DMD board and wants to use it for super fast scanning, He wants to know if there is any way to increase the buffer size of the board.

I found an E2E thread below with similar inquiry but I'm not sure if this is the solution to his concern. Can you please confirm?

  • Hi Danilo,

From the DLPC350 datasheet it mentions that the buffer is internal to the DLPC350 so it cannot be increased or changed.

You can read more about the functionality of the buffer in section 8.4.1 of the DLPC350 datasheet. The buffer is also discussed in section 4.1 of the dlp 4500 EVM users guide.

  • Hi Alex,

Thank you for this information. Our customer has a follow up inquiry below.

What if I connect a beagle bone board to our DMD board?

Can a beagle bone board increase the buffer size?

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

Below is the current implementation of the buffer which is internal to the DLPC350. I am not sure if everything can be reconfigured to work with an external system such as a beagle bone board.

Is the customer following this reference design or are they trying to design something else entirely?

I may need to discuss internally with the team on better options for this issue, thanks for your patience.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Alex,

I just received this follow up inquiry of our customer.

Thanks for your explanations. We are trying to use the beagle bone board to enhance the capabilities of the DMD including its buffer size. Our number of patterns is more than 48 so we need more than two buffer sizes for using the DMD with a very short exposure time. Right now, when I reduce the DMD period to less than 10 microseconds, the third image is not fully uploaded at first, and I can not get the full image in the first sequences. when I increase the exposure time to 20 or 30 microseconds it is fine.
Can I solve this problem using the video mode instead of the pattern sequence mode? Or do We need to find a way to increase our buffer size? We were wondering whether Beaglebone board can improve the buffer size or not.
It is so nice of you to let me know what aspects of the DMD can be improved using the beaglebone board.

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

If I understand the request correctly, your client is looking to replace the DLPC350 with a BeagleBone. Is that correct? If this is the case, please note that the DLPC is designed specifically to interface with the DMD and the BeagleBone is not. This would be outside of our normal scope of support as the DLP4500 will only operate with the DLPC350.

    Kind regards,

    Austin
