DLPLCR65EVM: Mounting Question

Part Number: DLPLCR65EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP6500FYE

Hi,

I am getting a DLPLCR65EVM and would like to mount it onto an optic table. I would like to know which part of DLPLCR65EVM is used for mounting purpose, and whether there are some pics/examples available for mounting the DMD EVM on an optic table.

Thanks,

C

  • Good morning Charles,

There should be four mounting holes at the corner of the EVM board.  For this system I would recommend rotating the DMD board by 45 degrees such that the incident and projected beams are parallel to the surface of the optical table.  The four holes are shown in this image.

Depending on how much optical power you are planning to put on the DMD these holes are also used to mount to an optical interface and to hold a heat sink to the thermal area on the back of the DMD.

We do not have pictures of the EVM mounted on an optical table.  We do have documents on mounting concepts:

https://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/pdf/dlpa053  - note this is for a 2 hole design concept,  the four holes can be used, but of course you will need to adjust the spring pressure to no exceed the stresses outlined in the DLP6500FYE data sheet.

Each mounting situation is unique.  If you are going to use very low optical power levels you can likely forgo a heat sink, but I would recommend a small fan to blow over the back of the DMD.

  • Hi Fizix,

Thanks a lot for all the information.

By "rotating the DMD board by 45 degrees", do you mean that we can keep the EVM board horizontal and rotate the DMD board up to have a fixed angle with the EVM board? And why it was 45 degrees rather than 90 degrees to make the beams parallel to the surface of the optical table?

We are guiding a 488nm laser with max power of 50mW to the DMD. Do we need to get the optical interface and heat sink for this application? If so, could you please suggest some models?

    Thanks,

    C

  • Charles,

You will want to mount the controller board so that the flex cable is not stressed.

What I mean, is to mount the DMD board so that the normal to the array (window) is parallel to the table (board perpendicular to table surface).  Rotate the DMD 45 degrees so that the sides are at a 45 to the table surface.  If rotated 45 degrees counterclockwise the input angle (45 degrees azimuth and 24 degrees from the normal) should then be parallel to the surface of the table as well as the projection angle (normal to the DMD array).
