DLP471TP: 24p Support

Part Number: DLP471TP

Here you state that the DLP470TP has support for 24p using a special 72hz mode...
e2e.ti.com/.../2387256

And here, you state that there are no downgrades...
e2e.ti.com/.../3543186

I am getting information from Bomaker/Hisense that the DLP471TP will not support 24p to 72hz.
So, can the DLP471TP support 24fps without 3:2 pulldown.

In the previous thread, there is information on supporting 24p on 60hz >without< 3:2 pulldown, if this is the case, could you please elaborate?

Thank you,
Jens.

  • Hi Jens,

Welcome to the TI E2E forums and thank you for your interest in DLP. I will look into this further and get back to you with more information.

    Thank you,

    Chris

  • Hi Jens,

In DLP471TP for 24Hz source, the source is displayed in 2x refresh rate. The effective refresh rate will be 60Hz. DLP controller takes care of translating 24Hz source to 60Hz using an internal frame converter block.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Sanjeev, thank you for the reply.

I still don't understand how you account for a 20% frame loss pr. second (1-2*24/60=0.2),
if not repeating some, but not all, frames underway, but I suppose "magic" is as good an answere as any.

If you can share those details, a link to the technical documentation or here in the forum,
I would be interested, underwise feel free to close this question.

    Thanks again,
    Jens.

  • Jens,

There is no frame loss at all. The incoming frame rate is decoupled with the actual on the screen display fresh rate. This is done by internal Frame-Rate-Converter block. The loss issue comes iff the output refresh rate is slower than the incoming display rate.

    Hope this helps.
