DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2: Update Firmware

Part Number: DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2

Hello,

how can I update the Firmware of the DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2 ?

I downloaded the following firmware here:

www.ti.com/.../DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2

DLPDLCR3010-G2-FW:

DLP LightCrafter 3010 EVM-G2 Firmware
Free

Not Available ACTIVE v.1.0.0   26 Feb 2018

The update will always be canceled. I have not done a back-up of the old firmware.
Can you help me?
Thanks,
Max

  • Hello Max,

It appears you are using our Light Control GUI which is for a different product. You will want to use the Lightcrafter EVM GUI which can be installed at www.ti.com/.../dlplcrd-gui. That should enable you to properly flash the new firmware.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hello Kyle.

I have now used the Lightcrafter EVM GUI.

After the firmware installation the following will be displayed:

The projector is no longer lit and I can not communicate with it. You see here:

    What am I doing now?

    Thanks,

    Max Amann

  • Hi Max,

Looks like you are using wrong EVM GUI.

By looking at the picture you attached, this GUI is for DLPDLCR3310 EVM, but you need DLPDLCR3010 GUI.

This DLPDLCR3010 GUI is also available in the same package .

    Thanks,
    Navneet
  • Hi Navneet,

you're right, it was the wrong one. I have now successfully completed the firmware update.

Unfortunately, the LEDs on the projector will not turn on, no matter what I choose.

In Advanced Mode, it always appears that my choosen action has failed. What could be the Problem?

I have connected via USB and HDMI.

    Thanks,

    Max

  • Hello Max,

Can you confirm you definitely have the gen 2 3010EVM? And please confirm the exact firmware version you are using. If you accidentally used an incorrect version it could cause an error.

Also, are you able to successfully send any other commands? If not you may need to attempt reflashing the device with correct firmware.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hello Kyle,

ouh. you're right, we do not have the G2. we have the DLP® 3010 Light Control Evaluation Module.

I have dowloaded the GUI installer and i wanted to update the Firmware.

Firmware (DLP 3010 Light Control Firmware) (File-Name after download: "dlpc347x_1.0.0.img")  and GUI installer are dowloaded here:

    http://www.ti.com/tool/DLP3010EVM-LC#buy

    Unfortunately, the following error occurs:

Whats wrong? How can I update the Firmware and communicate with the Projector?

    Sorry and Thank you,

    Max Amann

  • Hello Max,

Unfortunately it looks like you are again using the wrong firmware image. If you are using the DLPDLCR310EVM-G2 you will want to use the corresponding firmware and GUI. The link to both can be found at www.ti.com/.../DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hello Kyle,

sorry for the confusion, see my last post:

"we do not have the G2. we have the DLP® 3010 Light Control Evaluation Module."

It should be the right firmware, but it does not work.

    Thanks,

    Max

  • Hello Max,

My apologizes. That does look like the correct firmware. Are you able to communicate at all right now to the Light Control EVM using the GUI? Or are you unable to communicate at all?

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hello Kyle,

I can not communicate with the EVM.

Unfortunately, the LEDs on the projector do not light up - not even when starting.

    Regards ,
    Max

  • Hello Max,

Here is the procedure you should follow to reflash a corrupted firmware image. Note you will be using the LightCrafter Display v7.0 GUI ()  (this is different than the Light Control GUI you should use during normal operation). This is because the LightCrafter GUI supports updating the flash directly via SPI while the Light Control GUI does not (this feature will be coming later).

    1. Ensure the projector On/Off switch is Off. The switch will remain off during the procedure.
    2. Plug in the power supply
    3. Ensure LED D5 (5V) and D6 (3.3V) are on
    4. Open the firmware page and select update the firmware (use the firmware at )
    5. The GUI will ask if the connected EVM is a 2010/3010 EVM. Select No.
    6. You will get a warning, press yes to proceed
    7. The device firmware will update.
    8. When done you can close the LightCrafter GUI, restart the EVM and turn on the switch. Connect to the device using the Light Control GUI.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

    Thanks,

    Kyle

  • Hello Kyle,

that worked, thanks! Now I can communicate with the EVM.

Can you still tell me how to define patterns for the EVM and how to define the Images? The information in the user guide is not enough for this.

    Thank you,

    Regards,

    Max

  • Hello Max,

I'm glad that worked for you! For more information about defining patterns kindly refer to the help pages in the GUI and this FAQ to get you started. If you still have further questions we will happily help if you create a new thread.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
