DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2: Custom projector PCBs and related questions

Part Number: DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC3439

Dear All,

We developed our own projector (full custom) from the control board to the optical engine (PCBs and optics). After minor fixes due to some forgotten connections we managed to start the projector and use it just like the DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2.

Here some photos of the design :

Now before mass producing the projector we have to add some new features to the hardware (such as replacing the USB interface with RS485). Everything is fine so far but we need some clarification to some points.

1- In our optical engine we are using different OSRAM LEDs (5 A each ! expl : BLUE). In the future we gonna use 16A LEDs but for now we need to set the max current of the LEDs to 2A during startup ? We are guessing that the DLPC3439 firmware is responsible for setting the default values of the LED current. Is there anyway to limit the current (except replacing the Rlim resistor with higher value) ?

2- Is there any tool to modify the DLPC3439 firmware ? (redefine the default values and images ...)

Kind regards

  • Hello Ahmed,

You should be able to use the GUI to modify the firmware that is found at www.ti.com/.../dlplcrd-gui. There should be options to modify the startup current and change the duty cycle of one of the looks. Please try it out and let me know if you have any issues.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hello Kyle,

Thank you again for your support you have been a great help to us.

Yeah we managed to limit the startup current to 4.8A thanks to your advice.

Few remarks I have to add:

    - The GUI (DLP LightCrafter Display v7.0) does not work well for us on windows 10 (it works on windows 7). I shows some communication errors probably related to the drivers (USB).

    - An open source GUI (not complicated that feature the batch files) would be appreciated for most users I guess.

    and another question:

Does the DLPC3439 support an OSD feature ? I mean if we want to add some gadgets on the screen is it possible ? can you point me to a direction ?

    Regards
