DLPLCR4500EVM: How does recognize LightCrafter4500 from TI GUI tool?

Dear All,

When changing the configuration of USB HUB in an environment where two LightCrafter4500 are connected via the USB HUB, one LightCrafter4500 became not to be recognized from the TI GUI Tool.

Now same problem became to happen even if only one unit is connected directly to a PC without using the USB HUB.

But this unit can control from our(customer) made application which is TI SDK based.

We are investigating why this happens. Do you have any experience of the above phenomena?

Also, could you tell me the conditions for recognition by GUI Tool (how does TI GUI Tool recognize LightCrafter4500?)?

Hi Rossinag,

The GUI uses open source HID drivers for communication with the LCR4500. There is an issue with this driver and Windows 10 that on some system prevents proper communication using this driver.

Hi Rossinag,
Try re-installing the HID driver on the system on which one of the LightCrafter 4500 is not recognized.

LightCrafter 4500 recognized just with USB VID and PID as below
#define MY_VID 0x0451
#define MY_PID 0x6401

Also try using the latest version of the GUI 4.0.x see if the problem goes away; we have made some changes to work with Windows 10.

Is there any information the GUI uses except USB VID & PID in order to recognize LCR4500?

When does TI release the GUI 4.0.x? (it looks that 3.1.0[06/14/2017] is the latest now)

Rossinag,

Yes the GUI depends on USB VID and PID to recognize the hardware. Since Windows support HID drivers you don't need to install any specific drivers, it will automatically get installed when you connect the hardware first time to PC.

I will have to go back and check about v4.1.x release. Regarding Windows 10 with v3.1.0 GUI we had issue related to programming the flash this particular change on v3.1.0 GUI discussed in this thread https://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp/f/94/t/698715?DLP4500-Flash-memory-M29W128GL70-is-EOL-and-look-for-replacement we planned to update this change in v4.1.x GUI and release, you can apply this change in v3.1.0 GUI and rebuild the code.

Are only VID&PID the element in order to recognize LCR4500 from GUI?

I would like to know whether any other elements(ex. Windows registry information) are used or not?

Rossinag,
Windows registry gets updated first time after connecting to the hardware. If by any chance issue with recongizing the device, you can uninstall the driver , clear the registry and try connecting again.

Customer say this issue does not happen when they use their made application which is TI 3D measurement SDK based.
Do you know whether the TI SDK uses something different way to recognize LCR4500?

The changes I have described in this thread needs to be ported on the TI SDK software also. Basically this related to USB detection and enumeration on Windows 10.
