DLPLCR9000EVM: DLP generating error due to overheating?

Part Number: DLPLCR9000EVM

Hello,

We have several DLP LightCrafter 9000 in the field. We just received a ticket that the DLP LightCrafter 9000 threw an error stopping a data acquisition after being exposed continuously with ~400 - 500 mW of 560 nm (green) light for 2 min. (Note that the DLP error code is currently not logged by our software, so we do not know what kind of error was generated.) We are wondering whether the error was generated due to overheating of the DLP. Please advise whether the DLP LightCrafter 9000 contains some kind of overheat protection, and if so how does it work?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Peter

  • Hello Peter,

There is no error for thermal items on these systems.  Unless you have no airflow or heat dissipation I would not expect 1/2 W of power to cause an issue.

    Can you post the error?

    Fizix

  • Thank you, Fixix.

As I mentioned, the error is non-descript (i.e., a generic error 1 that is not generated by the DLP), so it does not make sense to post it.

However, in the meantime I found out that the error was generated earlier in the program and was completely unrelated to the DLP. It was the lamp overheating and the error was later logged in our DLP subroutine.

(BTW the lamp overheated after 16 consecutive iterations of 2 min length.)

This issue is resolved. Thanks again for looking into it.

    Best, Peter
