Hello,

I am trying to do 2 things:

1) display my own 120Hz 24-bit RGB content

2) display my own 1-bit Green content at 240Hz

Would you recommend I drive the external pattern mode with HDMI? Will this be possible at 120Hz? That mode will automatically detect the incoming frame rate, yes?

If I have a large folder of the bit-planes, is there a way I can use the advanced mode to avoid having to figure out the HMDI format requirements?

I think I answered my own questions, one remaining:

- If I wanted to pack XX Hz 1-bit content into 24-bit 120 Hz frames (to pass over HDMI), how should I do it such that it gets decoded correctly? Does each bit just get treated as an equally weighted mirror flip? Or is there more significant bit encoding to take into account?

Hello Brooke,

There is a more significant bit encoding to take into account. Bits are not interpreted to be equally weighted. The controller on the EVM will not be able to handle the conversion you are proposing.

What is the end goal of your proposed content conversion? Why do you need a conversion of the content into 24-bit 120 Hz frame?

Hi Austin,

I want a way to pass over 1-bit data at higher frequency e.g. display a small red square flashing at 250Hz, for example.

and was under the impress that I might be able to pack this data into higher bit frames? If you have a simpler suggestion, that would be very much appreciated.

I recommend looking through the FAQ on the light control EVMs we have. You can attempt this over HDMI or set up an internal pattern to stream based on parameters you set. If you have questions after reading the FAQ or run into issues, please feel free to let us know.

Hi Chris,

I have read the FAQ, but I'm still not sure how to send 1-bit data (e.g. flashing red at max Hz) and have the DLP decode it correctly. Could you point me towards any more resources?

Brooke,

You can pack 24 1bit patterns into a video frame and then display the frames using external patterns mode. In this way, each of the patterns will be displayed according to the exposure time settings. Please refer to the timing diagram in the GUI in order to have more clarity.

The easiest way of displaying 1bit patterns without any additional front end would be via internal pattern mode. If your patterns are not changing at run time, I would recommend you to use internal pattern mode to display the patterns.
