DLP4500: DLP4500 video mode dim projection

Part Number: DLP4500

Hi,

I am currently using DLP4500 in video mode, defined in the GUI control software. Working as a second display, the EVM works successfully replicating the content from the video source (my laptop). However, the brightness is so low that I cannot see clear what is being projected. I tried giving larger number in the led current blank under LED Driver Control Panel (Blue 250, single channel), it makes some difference but still the brightness is not as good as it is supposed to be. Could you give me any suggestions on how to improve it? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

Jinhui

  • Hello Jinhui,

Welcome to the E2E forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology.

You are only using the blue LED, correct? What have you done to disable the other LEDs? Have you simply turned them off or put the board in a monochromatic mode?

The blue offers the least brightness to a projected image. It may help if you let us know your projected end application for the board to help with a potential work around or other ways to get light.

    Regards,

    Austin

  • Hi Jinshui,

Also refer to EVM user's guide section 3.2 PC Software https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/dlpu011f/dlpu011f.pdf

There is a reference to LED Drive Control / LED Current and LED Selection - you can also try setting LED Selection option in [Manual] with [Blue] Checkbox selected. This will make the blue LED to be on for entire video frame-time.

Also note that normally Blue LED is not as bright as other Red or Green. If Color is not a problem you could try others Red or Green.
