DLPC3433: DLP power consumption problem

We found that when DLP was working, there would be a lot of burrs ,about 1A peak current , when testing the total power consumption. We are quite sure that it was caused by DLP. We tested the development board and had the same problem, so we want to confirm whether this is normal.

Welcome to the E2E forums and thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

I believe these current spikes you are observing are from the switching behavior of the LEDs that you are using. The spikes and current behavior in general will be affected by your LED PWM settings and duty cycle configuration (Looks).

What LED current settings are you running at?

It currently appears to be related to the RGB LED switching gap.

We are just using I2C to adjust the brightness and some simple settings. we don't know which register we should try to debug the current problem？

Philippe is referencing the LED current generated through the DAC. You can read this current by using the GUI's IntelliBright menu or by accessing register 0x55 as described on page 45 of the DLPC3433 Software Programmer's Guide. Would you be able to tell us this current setting on your system?

As he mentioned, this is likely due to the LED switching behavior. Generally speaking, this is likely not a cause for concern unless you are seeing performance issues.

The value of register 0x55 is 0xDC，We found that when some mobile phones are connected to AR devices with DLP, there will be some crashes for unknown reasons, which is not the case when using external power supply.

Mobile phones can generally be used for power supply of 5V 1.5A from USB TYPE C.

We've tested both of them, and the phenomenon is the same.

A colleague suggested us to limit the RGB transient current.

After we communicate with the optical machine factory, they will issue another firmware of DLPC to us to try, but the firmware has not come out yet.
