DP83848VYB: 【ASAP】Difference between DP83848IVV/NOPB and DP83848VYB/NOPB

Dear Technical Support Team,

My board has DP83848IVV / NOPB on mass production, but it is out of stock.

I'm confirming to replace from DP83848IVV / NOPB to DP83848VYB/NOPB.

I check two differences and these are temperature range and package (pin compatible but DP83848VYB has thermal pad).

There is no thermal pad pattern with DP83848I on my board.

■Question

①If the thermal pad is not used with DP83848VYB(LQFP), is the thermal resistance comparable to HLQFP? 　

　Does it mean that operating temperature range will be -40 to + 85 ° C ?

② Do you have any other attention to replace ?

■temperature range 

DP83848VYB/NOPB：-40℃～105℃

DP83848IVV/NOPB：-40℃～85℃

    The DP83848I is rated to 85degC, while the DP83848VYB is rated to 105degC. The ground pad is on the DP83848VYB is used like a heat sink for the extended temperature grade. As long as your application stays within the temperature rating of the DP83848I, then leaving the thermal pad of the DP83848VYB floating should be fine. In addition, from a schematic standpoint, there are other pins for grounding, so the thermal pad should not be necessary for grounding.

    I work in Japan time. It would be very helpful if you could reply by the end of Thursday, US time, as I will be able to confirm it on Friday, Japan time.

    Based on your answer, I plan to buy the device, but I'm worried that the recent semiconductor shortage will cause another person to buy it first and the replacement will run out of stock. We would like to avoid the production line going down, so we appreciate your cooperation.

    Thank you for highlighting that thread! I agree with that answer and I will mark this as 'TI Thinks Resolved'. As long as you stay within the temperature spec for the 848I, then you will be able to use the 848VYB.
