DS90UB954-Q1EVM: Why cannot read UB953's register from UB954?

Part Number: DS90UB954-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB953-Q1, DS90UB954-Q1, ALP, DS90UB948-Q1, DS90UB935-Q1, DS90UB933-Q1, DS90UB913A-Q1

Dear all,

Recently, I am testing DS90UB954-Q1 EVM and DS90UB953-Q1 EVM. When my PC is connected with DS90UB953-Q1, I can read and write UB954's register through remote register.

However, when I connect my PC with UB954, I only read and write UB954's register but I cannot read or writeUB953's register any more. But from the infomation of ALP, I still can see UB953's ID but I cannot read it on remote register.

Otherwise, I have a UB953-DC1 but I don't have its user guide, can you provide some information on it?

Thanks and Best Regards!

Chris

  • Hello Chris,

Thank you for providing details and screen capture pictures of the issue you are experiencing.

Can you please try selecting the RX Port in the ALP GUI "Remote Registers" tab shown in your post above? The RX Port on the 954 deserializer, is the port at which you connected the 953 serializer.

Please let me know if this helps resolve the issue.

    Best Regards,

    Shruti More

  • Thanks for your suggestion and it has resolved my issue.

  • Hi Shruti,

Otherwise, Can you give me some suggestion on DS90UB953's daughter card? I don't have any reference information on it.

    Best Regards!

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

Can you please explain what kind of support or suggestion you are looking for regarding the DS90UB953's daughter card. What kind of issues are you having with it?

    Best Regards,

    Shruti

  • Hi SHruti,

DS90UB953-DC (DC means daughter card) is a sensor attached with DS90UB953-EVM. I am testing the link between Ser and Sensor by initializing sensor but I cannot know how can I initialize it by DS90UB953-Q1, or which pin I can test to verify that they have been linked well?

On the other hand,  I learnt that when working in PatGen mode, the DS90UB948-Q1 have 4 kinds of configuration options according to clock an timing. But it seems that DS90UB954-Q1 doesn't have internal timing, just as the app notes "SNLA132G". Can you help me confirm with it? Or can I have other way to realize the internal timing?

    Thanks and best regards!

    Chris

  • Hello Chris,

Are you trying to verify that you can transfer video data across FPD-Link? If so, you don't need the daughter card to do that. You can use the pattern generator table in ALP to turn on the pattern generator in ALP * https://www.ti.com/lit/an/snla132g/snla132g.pdf?ts=1630366440372&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F * and you can verify lock by reading register 0x4D.

"When initializing the communications link between the DS90UB954-Q1 deserializer hub and a DS90UB935-Q1
or a DS90UB953-Q1 serializer, the system timing will depend on the mode selected for generating the serializer
reference clock. When synchronous clocking mode is selected, the serializer will re-lock onto the extracted back
channel reference clock once available so there is no need for local crystal oscillator at the sensor module
(Figure 57 in the 954 datasheet). When the DS90UB935-Q1 or DS90UB953-Q1 is operating in non-synchronous mode, or if connecting to DS90UB933-Q1 or DS90UB913A-Q1 serializer the sensor module requires a local reference clock."

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Shruti
