DP83TG720S-Q1: TX_TCLK125 jitter (Master) higher than 1.618ps when using 5M bandwidth

Part Number: DP83TG720S-Q1

Hi Team,

When customer tested the TX_TCLK125 jitter (Master) in PMA, they encountered this problem: when 802.3bp requires the jitter to be tested, the bandwidth of the bandpass filter should not be less than 2MHz. Customer used the 2MHz bandwidth to test, and the result was that the rms jitter was around 1.5ps. Compared with the 5ps spec, there will be a large margin; OA's TC12 requires the bandwidth of the bandpass filter to be no less than 5MHz. When measured with a 5MHz bandwidth, the test result will be around 4.9~5.1ps, which is very critical and will fail probabilistically.
Customer checked our PMA test report <TI_DP83TG720_10262020_PMA_Report_v1.0.pdf>, which was also tested at a 5MHz bandwidth, but the test result was only 1.618ps.

What factors may affect this jitter? What methods can we try to solve this problem.
