DP83869HM: Layout Guidelines

Part Number: DP83869HM

Hi Team,

We have few

queries regarding Layout guidelines for DP83869HM. In the datasheet layout guideline section it is mentioned that,  "Pairs must be referenced to parallel ground plane".

Also in same datasheet its mentioned that, "Return path can be continuous ground or DC power plane".

So we would like to understand that, to which plane the signals should be referenced. If it's power plane, can it be 2.5V or 1.8V? what is the DC voltage plane or any voltage plane it can be?

Please provide your input to proceed further.

Best Regards,

Vyshnav Krishnan

  • Hi Vyshnav,

The second statement, "return path can be continuous to ground or DC power plane" refers to not having a break in the plane below the traces. Refer to Figure 119 for an example of the traces crossing a broken plane. This will affect the controlled impedance of the signaling. This is a general layout practice.

The first statement, "pairs must be referenced to parallel ground plane" refers to a requirement for SGMII lines as stated in Section 12.1.1.1.1.

    Thank you,

    Nikhil Menon
