SN65C1167E: getting oscillation of 5V on PIN 3 wrt to PIN 4.

Part Number: SN65C1167E

Following connection I did:

PIN 16 VCC, PIN 12 DE ------   5V ( from separate supply)

PIN 8 GND --------  GND ( from separate supply)

PIN 2 LSPWMN --------------- GND ( from microcontroller )

PIN 1 LSPWMP------------------ Pulse ( 0V to 5V, 100KHz, from microcontroller)

PIN 6 HSPWMN --------------- GND ( from microcontroller )

PIN 1 HSPWMP------------------ Pulse ( 0V to 5V, 100KHz, from microcontroller)

PIN 4 RE - GND ( from separate supply)

PIN 15 ID - tried both HIGH ( 5V) or low ( GND)

PIN 9 2D - tried both HIGH ( 5V) or low ( GND)

I am not getting  PWM output on pin 3 or pin 5 ( getting sinusoidal waveform ).

  • Hi Vamshi,

There is a linked E2E post on this question. Are these two setup's related? Are you using the same pinout described here on the other question? Do you have a scope capture of the sinusoidal waveform you are outputting on pin 3 or 5?

From my understanding of the block diagram on the datasheet, it looks like you won't see output signals on pin 5 since you are driving a pulse on pin 1 while having pin 2 grounded. You should see only one side of the signal.

Are you measuring the RS422 signal on pins 13,14,10,11?

How are you terminating the bus?

    Regards,

    Tyler
