Hi,

Since the chip has ESD protection inherently, do we need to add external TVS diodes?

You need to add external protection if you want it to survive ESD events stronger than the ratings (16 kV HBM etc.).

Thanks for the reply.

If we are okay with the ESD ratings of the IC, should we add clamping current limiting pulse proof resistors?

As Clemens said, if you are concerned about ESD events stronger than what the device is rated for, it is recommended to add external protection components. TVS diodes and/or current-limiting pulse-proof resistors are both good options.
