TUSB564: how to decide whether to use a USB redriver or MUX?

Hi Expert,

I learn that USB redriver can improve the signal integrity and performance. But how can I know the signal is bad if I don't use a USB redriver? Do you have some reference about under what working condition a USB redriver is needed, such as data speed and cable length? Thanks.

You can use this as a reference, https://www.usb.org/sites/default/files/USB_3.1_Loss_Budget_Rev_1.0_-_2015-03-02.pdf.

For Type-C 5G sink side, total loss budget is 6.5dB. If everything, include MUX, does not violate this 6.5dB loss budget, then you don't need redriver. But if the total loss is exceeding the 6.5dB budget, then you would need the redriver.
