DP83869HM: 100M Fiber SFP Not working on RGMII-SGMII Bridge Mode

Part Number: DP83869HM

Hello Team,

DP83869HM Phy connected with Imx6sx Processor on RGMII Interface. I am using RGMII-SGMII Bridge Mode Interface.

On the SGMII side, We have connected SFP.  1G Fiber and 1G copper SFPs are working fine with this configuration Mode.

We are Facing an Issue with 100M Fiber SFP. We are not able to detect 100M fiber SFP.

Any help from your side will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Prerak

  • Hi Prerak,

If you are using an SFP, please use 100Base-FX mode instead of RGMII to SGMII bridge mode. Note that in fiber mode, the speed is not decided through auto-negotiation, so both sides of the link must be manually configured to the same operating speed. This could explain the issue if you are not configuring the link partner to 100Base-FX mode as well.

    Thanks,

    David

  • We want the Hot Pluggable Feature for the 100/1000 Copper and Fiber SFPs. So Mode change option may not work for us.

If we configure same Speed at both end then 100M fiber will work or not ? Using 100Base-FX mode we are able to run 100M fiber SFP.

We want to enable the support for 100/1G Fiber and Copper SFP with hot-pluggable functionality.

Any other suggestion will also be acceptable.

    Thanks,

    Prerak

  • Hi Prerak,

We have not characterized the use of SGMII interface with SFP, and strongly recommend switching to 100Base-FX.

The SFP connector should still be hot swappable in 100Base-FX mode. What is the concern here?

    Thanks,

    David

  • Hello David,

We have Multiple SFP modules for 1G and 100M copper and Fiber. if we switch to 100Base-FX mode then for us 1G Module will not work as we need to change the mode from 1000Base-FX to 1000Base-X to work with 1G Module. However Copper SFP will not work in both cases.

    Thanks,

    Prerak

  • Hi Prerak,

You must specify the mode as either fiber or copper. There is no configuration that will automatically work with both.
