Dear team,

I am looking for I/O expander for SPI interface. Did we have solution now?

I have found some related post about SPI application. May i learn from you what is the limitation if we use I2C/IO expander solution in SPI interface?

TI does not make general-purpose SPI expanders.

I²C and SPI are not compatible.

If you have only inputs or only outputs, then you can use shift registers (e.g., SN74HCS165, SN74HCS595); their serial interface is SPI compatible. Alternatively, use a small microcontroller (e.g., MSP430FR2000) and program it yourself.

Hi Eric and Clemens,

May we learn from you what is the limitation to use I/O expander for SPI interface?

Since data direction/ data speed/ driving capability are both meet SPI interface standard. I don't clear about why we must to use MCU.

An I/O expander has two interfaces. Which of them are you referring to?
