Hello,
My customer is considering to transmit PCI Gen1 data from FPGA#1 to FPGA#2 via 1m length FR4 PCB trace.
Just one DS80PCI402 is good enough to compensate the 1m FR4 PCB trace loss?
Or two DS80PCI402s should be cascaded?
If two DS80PCI402s are required, how can the customer estimate jitter at FPGA#2?
Best regards,
K.Hirano
Hi Hirano-San,
Typically we do not recommend using two equalizer such as DS80PCI402 cascaded as you noted. It makes it difficult to tune.
Also, please note what is important is the loss of this trace. Given there are different types of FR4 and board stack up so loss could be different between different board materials and board stack ups. Please note table 8-2 of the data sheet. This provide gain that device supports based on insertion loss. Please also suggest to your customer to do some signal integrity analyses using s-parameter model of their transmission line.
