DP83869EVM: Ethernet to Fiber Communication problem

Part Number: DP83869EVM

Hello Team,

I'm posting on behalf of my customer:

I have 2 DP83869EVM with me ,

I try to do communicate them usiong normal Ping command , but its not working . i am attaching the Setup image please refer that .

I configure DP83869EVM  Strap option in both EVM as per below -

JTAG_TDO / GPIO_1 ->  OPMODE_0 : Jumper

RX_D3 OPMODE_1 : OPEN

RX_D2 OPMODE_2 : Jumper

LED_0 : pin 2-3 jumpoer

LED_1 : pin 2-3 jumpoer

LED_ 2 : pin 2-3 jumpoer

RX_CTRL / MIRROR_EN : Jumper

RX_CLK_LINK_LOSS : Jumper

Part number of Fiber converter - GLC-GE-100FX

Can you please help me on this?

Regards,

Renan

  • Hi Renan,

Please let me replicate this setup on my end and update you with my results.

    Regards,
    Rahul

  • Hi Renan,

Can you please read register address 0x0003 on both the PHYs and share it with me?

    Thanks,
    Rahul

  • register address 0x0003

    1) EVM - A0F1

    2) EVM - A0F1

    Thank You,

    Nikunj

  • I have set the below register as well but still not working properly ( ping command gives me Destination host unreachable )

Register 0x01DF will contain 0x0045 for 100 Mbps Media Converter mode.
NOTE: Important: Required register configuration for 100 Mbps Media Converter mode: - Write
    0x1FFC to register 0x01EC (set bit [0] to 0)

Note - Previously it was not with suggested data so i write with 100Mbps Media converter mode configuration .

(but i need this setting with only strap mode jumper connection not any software interaction need )

    Waiting for your feedback ,

    Regards,

    Nikunj

  • One more update after setting

    Write 0x1FFC to register 0x01EC

My Ethernet connectivity Drop it's look like my Ethernet is not connected to PC (eventhough it is connected ).

  • Hi Nikunj,

I did the same setup with the EVMs in our lab and I was able to ping successfully without writing to register 0x01EC. Here is the screenshot of successful ping operation along with register reads:

Can you please read the registers I read on the screenshot to check the link status as well as the 100BASE-T to 100BASE-FX configuration- ?

Are you using Linux or Windows PC, can you do ifconfig or ipconfig and check the static ip address available for your PC (Link partner)?

I was also able to perform iperf throughput test and achieve ~95mbps speed:

    Regards,
    Rahul

  • for me

    Register 0001 - 7696

in both the EVM LED_2 ( LD5) is blinking .

can you please reverify my jumper setting .

i am attaching the image .

    JTAG_TDO / GPIO_1 ->  OPMODE_0 : Jumper  - Pull up - High

    RX_D3 OPMODE_1 : OPEN - Low

    RX_D2 OPMODE_2 : Jumper  - Pull up - High

    RX_CTRL / MIRROR_EN : Jumper - Pull up - High

    RX_CLK_LINK_LOSS : Jumper - Pull up - High

is this LED jumper matter for mode selection ?

    LED_0 : pin 2-3 jumper - Pull up - High

    LED_1 : pin 2-3 jumper - Pull up - High

    LED_ 2 : pin 2-3 jumper - Pull up - High

  • Hi Nikunj,

According to your register reads there is no LINK, please check Register 0x0001 bit 2.

I also noticed LED1 - LD3 glowing on my board when the fiber cable is connected, when I disconnect it the LED is going OFF.

Can you try changing the SFP modules used for the board and test it?

Before we perform ping test we should see LINK status up on both the PHYs.

    Regards,
    Rahul

  • Hi Rahul ,

LED1-LD3 / LD4 is not ON in my case ,
right now i have only 2 SFP , i will check if i have any other working SFP.
is there any other change i need to implement ?

    Regards,
    Nikunj

  • Hi Nikunj,

Rest of the configuration looks same on my end as well, I will wait for you to test with another pair of SFP modules. Let me also take a picture of my setup/ boards and share it here. I will be in the lab tomorrow, will send you the images.

    Regards,
    Rahul

  • Hi Rahul,

Thank you , Please send that all image for my referance .

one small update , after testing with some other ready made converter i am sure the some fault on optical (SFP module ) side. i perform test with 1000Base-Fx Module and got  link , optical cable detection and internet connectivity .

i am planning to buy 2 pair of 100Base-Fx and 2 pair of 1000Base-Fx SFP . and perform the test .

You may close ticket once you send me the set-up image , and if you test it with 10,100,1000Base-Fx then it woud be great . because i need media converter which can work in all Speed.

as per the coinfiguratiuon setting it's look like if i made a 1000 Mbps Media converter Mode setting and put it on "Copper Auto
Negotiation (1000 Advertised), Auto MDIX Strap option it can work in all Speed is it right undeerstanding ?

    Thank you,

    Nikunj

  • Hi Nikunj,

Please find attached images of my setup. I have used 100Base-FX SFP modules.

One thing to note in 1000M Media converter is "In 1000M media converter mode, Cu Auto-negotiation will not downgrade to 100 Mbps if LP supports
only 100Mbps and link will fail."

Feel free to create a new thread if there are any further queries in the future.

    Regards,
    Rahul
