DP83869EVM: Interfacing DP83869EVM to MSP-EXP430F5529LP

Hi Team,

Need your expertise on our customer's query.

1. How can we connect the DP83869EVM to the MSP-EXP430F5529LP launchpad? I see some resources that these two can work in conjunction.

2. Can we also communicate with the adc channels on the launchpad on IP-address basis? As in can we request data from a specific channel using the IP-address assigned to that channel?

3. Our customer is interested in connecting an FSP module to the DP83869EVM. One example is the module from Cisco which uses two wavelengths to transmit and receive over one cable. Would this be possible?

    Hi,

    1. MSP4330F5529LP is used a Tool to emulate MDIO/MDC interface to program Ethernet PHY. For data transfer, you need MAC support on the Processor/MCU

    2. Optical Transreciever can be connected on the MDI side of the PHY. For MAC interface, you need MCU with MAC support to transfer and recieve data from application to PHY.

    Hi Geet,

    I am the customer in question. I am still a student so most of this is new to me. As I understand from your message data transfer is not possible at all between the Ethernet PHY and launchpad selected, because the MCU in the launchpad doesn't have MAC support. Am I understanding this right?

    I am have selected this specific Ethernet PHY because I want to communicate from the host to the launchpad over fiber optic cabling. This communication doesn't need to be IP based as I can use I2C to have adressbased communication with the sensors connected to the launchpad.

    If NO communication/data transfer is possbile at all though this will not work for me.

    If that is the case could you advise me on a launchpad with a MCU with MAC support that can work with the DP83869EVM?

    As I am using fiber optic cabling for my Proof of Concept.

    1.  Yes, MCU can't be used for data transfer.

    2. Ethernet PHY always have to be interfaced with MCU with MAC to perform data transfer. For I2C based communciatoin, you can look at using other TI MCUs.

    3. DP83869EVM is not meant to connect to MCU over MAC as these are high speed125MHZ lines and you have to route these traces over pcb to make it work.
