DP83869HM: LAN does not link up

Hi Yuyama-san,

What is the configuration of the commercial media converter? Is it it set to force one speed, or set in auto-negotiation?

We have a working lab setup with two back to back 869 EVMs set in 1000TX <-> 1000FX conversion mode.

Our commercial media converter setting is auto-negotiation.
Please advise if you have any advice on register settings and switch settings in Excel files.

Hi Yuyama-san,

I was able to get 1000M link on copper and fiber side when connecting a DP83869 EVM to a network switch under various conditions.

Using two 1000M SFP modules while the 869 is set in 1000M T - FX conversion mode (OP_MODE[2:0] = 4h) , the following registers and router page diagnostics indicated gigabit link up on both the fiber and copper end:

I am in the process of more tests to see if I can replicate the issue you are facing, but in the meantime please let me know if you see any differences in this working setup relative to what you currently have.

But the ping did not go through.

Hi Yuyama-san,

Thank you for sharing the detailed setup.

For the same test, please read register 0x0001 several times, as the copper link status bit is a latch low. It should show link/auto-negotiation complete after the second read.

What SFP modules are you using for this test? Please share the model number if possible. This is the only unknown - the rest of the shared setup looks valid for 1000M link and ping.

Also, you can strap the LED jumpers as shown in the below photo to more easily diagnose the link status on both the copper and fiber ends.

We tried the steps you gave us, but the ping didn't work.
The optical module is HNGEP-200T manufactured by Hitachi.
I have updated the progress etc in the attached EXCEL file.

Hi Yuyama-san,

We expect link and ping to work with the setup you have shared - can you please confirm both PCs are set in auto-negotiation and support 100/1000M?

Also to note, we are using 850nm SFP modules with a maximum transmission rate of 1Gb/s. The SFP modules you are using have maximum rate 1.25 Gb/s - although we are unsure if this is the root cause, please test using different modules.
